28th January 2019 .- Last Thursday at the Official Residence of the Argentine Ambassador the concert "ENCUENTRO: Schubert and Guastavino" was held by the Argentine soprano Verónica Cangemi accompanied by the tenor Gustavo Grobocopatel and the pianist Carlos Koffman.
The event was attended by the authorities, diplomats, local music figures, members of the British Argentine Chamber of Commerce and special guests. Especially interesting was the combination of Schubert's music with Guastavino's compositions, taking into account that Guastavino lived for a season in London, a city that he considered one of his favorites.
Born in Mendoza (Argentina), Veronica Cangemi is one of the most versatile sopranos of the music scene today. After starting her career as a cellist, she won the first prize at the National Singing Contest in Argentina. Her European career started with Gluck’s Armide with Marc Minkowski and LesMusiciens Du Louvre in Versailles and Hänsel und Gretel at Radio France.Much in demand in the baroque and classical scene, her repertoire includes operas by Monteverdi, Cavalli, Scarlatti, Handel, Vivaldi, Gluck and Haydn. She has performed Mozart’s operas in the best scenarios in the world, as well as Beethoven’s Fidelio, Schubert’s Alfonso und Estrella, Auber’s Le domino noir, Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Puccini’s La Bohème; and Bizet’s Carmen at the Royal Opera House in London.
Gustavo Grobocopatel studied singing with Lucia Maranca and dedicates his repertoire to Argentine folk music where he has been part of the Trio Cruz del Sur for more than 20 years. The trio is presented in the main rooms of the country and abroad. On the other hand Gustavo has developed the repertoire of Argentine chamber music, including the most traditional authors up to contemporary music.
Carlos Koffman was born in Buenos Aires. He studied piano with Ana Gründwald and is a graduate of the National Conservatory of Music "Carlos López Buchardo" and the Higher Institute of Art of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as musical opera coach. He completed advanced courses in chamber music in Argentina and abroad with Catalina Hadis, Guillermo Opitz, Dalton Baldwin, Christian Ivaldi and Ian Partridge. He studied the work for piano and piano by Carlos Guastavino with the composer himself, dedicating himself to interpreting and teaching it throughout his career. She has a charge in the repertoire chair for singers in the Department of Musical Arts of the National University of the Arts.
