The Head of the UK Diplomatic Service visited the Argentine Foreign Ministry and held a meeting with the Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister
The Permanent Under-Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of the UK Diplomatic Service, Sir Simon McDonald, visited the Argentine Foreign Ministry on 26 July, where he was received by the Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Foradori.
During the meeting, the pair discussed the present and future for British-Argentine relations, particularly in areas where a positive bilateral agenda is being pursued.
Deputy Foreign Minister Foradori highlighted the importance of the country’s efforts to reintegrate Argentina into the world; an initiative boosted by Mauricio Macri’s government. In this regard, he stressed the possibilities for collaboration and complementarity that ties with the United Kingdom offer in a broad range of areas, such as science and technology, security, terrorism and drug trafficking, among others.
They discussed the current potential for the bilateral relationship to make progress on issues concerning the individual interests of each country, building on long-standing areas of agreement in various matters. They also discussed progress on the forensic analysis work to identify the fallen Argentine soldiers currently buried at the Darwin cemetery.
Under-Secretary McDonald gave a speech at the Argentine Foreign Service Institute, during which he spoke about British foreign policy in the current international climate, before taking questions from the floor.
