Andria Antoniou & Roman Gomez
'Encuentro' Album Launch

The Pheasantry - Chelsea

Andria Antoniou and Roman Gomez are delighted to release their new album 'Encuentro'. An album with a unique blend of Argentinian tango and Latin American folklore with jazz, expressed through Roman’s original compositions. The album is an expression of the power of encounter ('encuentro' in spanish) between artists and musical cultures. It is inspired by themes of displacement, nostalgia, loneliness, the utopian experience of love and the power of women to resist and seek for freedom. Their style draws upon impressionistic elements, creating evocative imagery through the explorative use of 'colour' in harmonic usage, texture and timbre. The album counts with the lyrical contribution of Mario Bakuna, Claudia Salomone and Julia Gray bringing together a creative team from different parts of the world. In the album launch show, 'Encuentro', Andria Antoniou and Roman Gomez will take the audience on an oneiric journey through the duet’s musical and personal imagery.

Royal Choral Society performs Misa Criolla

Holy Trinity Church- Sloane Street

Argentinian Ariel Ramirez’s evocative Misa Criolla, premiered by the Royal Choral Society in the UK in 1995, is the centrepiece in a concert that celebrates the universal beats, melodies and rhythms of vernacular folk music. Written in 1964, Misa Criolla combines the sacred mass with the deeply-rooted musical rituals and dances of Latin America. Ramirez’s beautifully melodic Navidad Nuestra, an uplifting folk drama of the nativity, is similarly based on the popular traditional music of Hispanic America; both will be performed with a vibrant guitar and percussion accompaniment.

London Tango Orchestra

London Latin Jazz Fest

Fresh from their performance at La Clave Festival (the largest Latin festival in the UK), the orchestra brings a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be transported to the boites of old Buenos Aires. They are the largest professional tango group in the country, a real orquesta típica uniting leading UK tango musicians with top-notch players from Argentina. The orchestra was founded in 2009 by Caroline Pearsall and is the first of its kind in the UK, having performed at renowned venues such as the Southbank Centre, Union Chapel and the Royal Albert Hall. Their fine-tuned repertoire consists of a tasteful pick from the rich repertoire of old and new tangos, including powerfully nostalgic Piazzola suites and upbeat milonga classics. Their album recieved a raving 4-star review in Songlines magazine.
